One mobile operator in Serbia is hiking prices, will others do the same?
Prices around the world and Serbia have been rising for several months now, and data from central banks indicate that inflation is also shifting. The price hikes mostly affect food, utilities and fuel, but there is almost no sector that has not become more expensive. Now, the price of mobile telephony is also increasing.
The growth of year-on-year inflation in August and September to 4.3 and 5.7 percent, respectively, is the result of a low comparative base from 2020, the global increase of energy prices, a weaker agricultural season due to the drought during the summer and the consequent rise in unprocessed food prices, as well as "imported" factors from the international environment, the National Bank of Serbia said.
In addition to domestic factors, we also "imported" many others. Together, they are resulting in the raising of all prices, the NBS specified. And while consumers are most worried about the jump in the prices of basic groceries such as cooking oil, flour and meat, it turned out that these will not be the only ones to become more expensive.
Namely, one of the leading mobile operators in the Serbian market has informed its customers that it will increase the price of all plans by 6.93%. As stated, the new prices will be introduced as soon as in December.
We asked other operators if they plan to adjust prices in the coming period and they told us as follows:
"We do not plan price corrections for our services this year," Telegraf Biznis was told by MTS.
"We do not have a plan for price correction, the focus of our business is on implementing planned improvements in the network infrastructure, development of new services and solutions for the digital age, as well as implementing projects," A1 told us.
We also contacted a consumer association, which stressed that customers who do not agree with the price increase have the right to terminate their contract without paying penalties or any other form of compensation.
