Earthquakes continue in Serbia: After the one early this morning in Kragujevac, another in Topola
After an M4.1 earthquake shook Kragujevac 20 minutes after midnight, another earthquake was felt at 5:18 am.
According to the website of the Seismological Service of Serbia, the quake had a magnitude of 2.0.
At 7:58, a weaker, M1.7 earthquake was registered in Topola.
"A series of earthquakes that hit Mladenovac last weekend, indicate that the area where they have not happened for a long time is active, that seismic activity has accumulated in it and that a strong shock can be expected in the Sumadija region in the coming period," seismologist Slavica Radovanovic told Telegraf.rs yesterday.
She explained that this means that seismic energy is slowly accumulating in that area.
"Most likely, that big earthquake will not happen soon, it should be preceded by some greater acceleration. That should be monitored now. I would not say that it will happen soon, but a period of about 10 years is a logical amount of time to expect a strong earthquake in the area of Sumadija," she explained.
