Since introduction of Covid passes, 5 nightclubs in Novi Sad shut down

A number of nightclubs in Novi Sad have completely closed their doors, while the owners of others have decided to change their businesses' opening hours, all with the aim of avoiding the consequences of the new law which refers to Covid passes.

Representatives of an association gathering the hospitality industry in Novi Sad, UGONS, have told the site NS Uzivo that so far in this city, "five establishments have decided, of their own accord, not to work anymore, while one has been closed by the Sanitary Inspection."

"Those who closed their establishments themselves did it because it is unprofitable for them to work from 6 pm to 10 pm, as well to stay open from 10 pm until 1 am (for guests ) with Covid passes, because the fact is that a small number of young people have been vaccinated," said Milenko Mijic from UGONS.

Those with the so-called "daytime opening hours," which includes cafes and restaurants, stayed open until 11 pm on weekdays before Covid passes were introduced. Once that happened, they decided en masse to start closing at 10 pm.

"They concluded that it is better to close at 10 pm than take any risks during that one hour. In that way they will not have to wonder if the distancing is respected, if they have a patron who has been there for a while and doesn't have a Covid pass, but has already had a few drinks...," continued Mijic.

He added that there are several establishments in the city that operate by complying with Covid passes (from 10 pm to 1 am), but that it is unpredictable for how long they will last. The fine for non-compliance with the new measures related to Covid passes and the prescribed distancing in hospitality establishments after 10 pm is 300,000 dinars, UGONS representatives recalled.
