Another girl, 7, in put on a ventilator: "We fight day and night, but there is no progress"

Another child - a seven-year-old girl - has been connected to a ventilator at the Institute for Mother and Child in Belgrade due to complications caused by Covid-19, Professor Dr. Predrag Minic, a pulmonologist in this institution and a member of the Crisis HQ of the Serbian Government has confirmed for Novosti.

There are now a total of four children on ventilators in this institution, while another boy with neurological problems had been intubated and then extubated.

"The girl who was transported from KBC Dr. Dragisa Misovic has a kidney disease, and she is the only one of the four intubated children with a comorbidity, i.e. an accompanying chronic illness," Dr. Minic told Novosti.

"According to all parameters, she is, however, in a slightly better condition than a six-month-old baby and two teenagers that we have been fighting for for a long time."

The first three children in Serbia with Covid who are connected to ventilators are on the brink of dying all the time, Doctor Minic confirmed for us yesterday.

"We fight day and night, this is top medicine practice in our conditions, with all the necessary state-of-the-art equipment for monitoring such cases, but the progress is, unfortunately, almost non-existent," said Dr. Minic.

"These children have been on ventilators for almost the third week. There are some improvements in the parameters that are monitored, but that is improvement, unfortunately, only in the numbers, and not in the real condition of those children."
