Kon reveals that 16-year-old is in serious condition: Lives of everyone on ventilators are in danger

Predrag Kon, an epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Hq of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the fight against the coronavirus epidemic, told Pink TV that serious sanctions are necessary for those who do not respect epidemiological measures.

"The lives of everyone who are on ventilators are in danger. We have a case of a 16-year-old boy who is in serious condition. All this put together means that the virus is looking for a sensitive population, and is entering schools through families," Kon told Pink.

He stressed that the process of immunization is necessary, as well as respect of all prescribed epidemiological measures.

"We must be more efficient and faster. If we want a result, vaccination is necessary. The recommendation to vaccinate children aged 12 and up is clear, and a vaccine for children from five to 11 years of age will be registered soon," he said.

Kon claims that immunity that children get through vaccination lasts longer.

"Those who are vaccinated as youths have longer-lasting immunity. Anyone who has received Sinopharm (vaccine) after only 4 months can receive that booster dose as reinforcement and that is recommended under circumstances of maximum virus circulation," said Kon.

The doctor warned that it is necessary for people who have some chronic disease or immunosuppression to get vaccinated (again) after 4 months.

"For now, there is no vaccine that can protect people from coronavirus for a long time. It's very important to know that immunizing children creates a serious barrier that prevents the transmission of the virus. That is far more effective and efficient protection," Kon explained.

"It is necessary to implement epidemiological measures and severely punish those who violate them," he concluded.
