Neighbors on suicide-murder victims near Apatin: "Mother of one of them still can't utter a word"

S.Z., 26, from Prigrevica near Apatin shot and killed his fellow citizen N.D., 34, with a pistol, and then blew himself up with a hand grenade.

Within just half an hour, the families of the murdered man and his killer from Prigrevica, a village near Apatin, were struck by tragedy.

For reasons not yet determined, S.Z. came to the house of his acquaintance N.D. on Tuesday afternoon and fired several shots at him from a pistol. Then he got in his car and headed towards his own house, but made a turn to a nearby village road and activated a hand grenade, Novosti.rs reports.

Although an ambulance arrived very quickly, its crew could do nothing but pronounce both men dead. Both families came to Prigrevica from Lika in Croatia after Operation Storm. They struggled with all a number of hardships, and now a new tragedy has befallen them.

"Please don't go to the mother's.She raised N.D. (the murder victim) and another son on her own. She's still incapable of uttering a word," said one of the neighbors in the refugee settlement in Stojana Matica Street.

"We were all stunned, we knew both of them. N.D. worked in a sawmill, a nice young man, he had a hard life, but he was a happy guy, at center stage during Krajina evenings and the Lika competition," says the neighbor.

Locals, however, claim that there must have been some reason why S.Z. decided on this horrible move. Recently, a graffiti reading, "Return the 10 percent" appeared on the home of the murder victim N.D., so it is still being determined whether the possible motive is debt.
