At Spring of Life near Pirot, many say that they found salvation: Dag Banjica - a potion of health

At the foot of the Vidlic Mountain flows the Gradasnicka River, where a place known locally as Izvor Zivota (Spring of Life) is located. The reason for such a name can be found in the stories about incredible healings, that the locals of that area near Pirot testify about first.

Officially, this is Dag Banjica, a place whose name is attributed to a certain Turkish woman called Daga. In fact, the legend states that in ancient times she found herself right at the source of the Gradasnicka River. And although she was trying to find a cure for a disease she was suffering from everywhere, she was cured only after coming here.

Whether or not that's how it happened, the legend of Daga and her miraculous healing has survived to this day.

Silver water

Although the water at the source of Dag Banjica has not yet been sufficiently studied, it is known that its temperature averages 29 degrees Celsius. It is also known that it contains silver.

It should be kept in mind, however, that despite that, the place is still not officially characterized as a health resort. However, there are numerous testimonies of people who visited it and say that they found solutions for certain health problems there.

This is mentioned in another local legend, which dates back to the Roman rule. While returning from one of the campaigns, wounded Roman soldiers were left at that very place to die, because their comrades thought that there was no chance of saving them. But fate seemed to have different plans, so they got healed quickly after consuming water from these springs.

Two groups of springs

Five springs are located on the right bank of the Dobrodolska River. The temperature of their waters is between 26 and 31 degrees, and they contain a small amount of gases.

About 230 meters upstream from that group of springs is another. The water temperature there is around 18 degrees.

All these springs surface at different altitudes, primarily due to their location, since they are found in faults and at different depths, so their waters intersect and mix in certain areas.
