Dr. Ignjatovic: Crisis HQ must bring bolder measures, Misovic hospital full from basement to roof
The head of anesthesiology at the KBC Dr Dragisa Misovic in Belgrade, Dr. Duska Ignjatovic, has told RTS that more than 300 patients are being treated in that institution and that the hospital is full "from the basement to the roof." The Covid measures in place are obviously not respected and not controlled, something must be done, the doctor stressed.
Ahead of the meeting of the Crisis HQ, Dr. Ignjatovic sent a clear message to its members: "It is necessary to be bolder and adopt some other measures. These measures are obviously not respected, nor controlled and sanctioned."
She stressed that Serbia must follow the example of countries that have introduced strict measures and have results, like Italy.
"Last year we were all afraid of the Italian scenario, now I would like us to look up to the current scenario: over 80 percent of people vaccinated, Covid passes introduced. We have to stop the transmission of the virus, we have three million citizens among whom are either sick or unvaccinated people, the virus is circulating, the winter is coming, people are spending time indoors," the head of anesthesiology pointed out while on RTS.
She said that she does not understand those who are against Covid passes and that she does not see a problem in them.
"We have a bus full of people dying from Covid, we are burying 50 people every day, this is official data, we're not talking about people who never reach the doctor, where Covid was not recognized. Because we don't want to come to our senses," said Dr. Duska Ignjatovic.
According to her doctors have no place in treating people if they do not believe in what they were trained for or if they want to treat people with herbs and drops.
"My friends call me and say that a doctor did not give them the vaccine because they are allergic to penicillin. That is ignorance, a disgrace," Dr. Duska Ignjatovic stressed, adding that a more aggressive vaccination campaign should reach people in rural areas.
KBC Dr. Dragisa Misovic has been in the Covid regime for almost two years, and according to the doctor, it is "full from the basement to the roof" all the time. More than 300 patients are currently being treated there, 70 of whom in intensive care. Over 90% of them have not been vaccinated, says the head of anesthesiology in this health institution.
"While they are fighting to breathe and while they are conscious, everyone is saying that they had no idea, they felt on their own skin how hard it is. As soon as we are out, we will get vaccinated, they say, but not everyone comes out, even though young people were healthy until then, they don't come out, they have no second chance. We had the choice to get vaccinated, it should have been done in a short amount of time, we missed that. Although it's late, let's not drag it out for two or three years, we can't just do Covid," Dr. Duska Ignjatovic said.
She added that many factors influence whether someone will develop a serious form of the disease, but that there are also young people, and even children who require oxygen during treatment.
"It has been confirmed that completely healthy people can develop it and deteriorate day by day, we do everything we have at our disposal, we influence the course of the disease, but sometimes we can't," said Dr. Duska Ignjatovic.
