Professor Predrag Sazdanovic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, said on RTS that the first obstetrician-gynecologist who gets reported because they did not recommend (coronavirus) vaccination which led to illness with a fatal outcome, will be a lesson to all other doctors what not to do.

"Yes, the virus exists, many still deny that it exists. If it's not clear now, when will it ever be. Yes, the virus kills, especially people in at-risk groups, such as pregnant women. The third thing, yes, there is a vaccine that protects against most severe forms. Fourth, no, no one died from a Covid vaccine. That does not happen. Let's clear that up," Sazdanovic stressed while speaking for RTS.

He recalled that at the end of March-beginning of April, the association of gynecologists in Serbia, on the recommendation of the WHO and other world organizations, gave a recommendation on vaccination of pregnant women.

"The thing is simple, we will not talk only about pregnant women, but about everyone. The legal obligation of doctors in the primary care, whether it concerns the elderly, children, pregnant women, is to follow recommendations and recommend vaccination. If they do not do that, they will bear criminal and material responsibility for something they did or did not do. I'm just reminding them, they know their responsibilities. I don't want to talk about ethics and Hippocrates," stressed Sazdanovic.

He added that professionals must get serious and "must respect in the workplace what the state has prescribed."

"You can have your own opinion, but outside the workplace. This is about responsibility," believes the state secretary in the Ministry of Health.

He reiterated that the chosen doctor is the one whom the patient trusts, adding that they have a legal obligation to recommend (vaccination), and that it is up to the patient whether they will accept that recommendation.

"This virus attacks pregnant women in this wave. What if the virus mutates, and it is very mutagenic, and attacks children, the school population? What if we have news about children who were not protected and passed away in a wave," Sazdanovic asked.

He stressed that "the first obstetrician-gynecologist who gets reported because they did not recommend vaccination leading to illness with a fatal outcome, will be a lesson to all other doctors what not to do."

"The message is clear: do your job professionally, your job is to recommend the vaccine, and whether you believe in it or not is your personal opinion," said the state secretary in the Ministry of Health.

Speaking about the condition of a baby whose mother died from the consequences of Covid in Kragujevac, Sazdanovic said that he is a moderate optimist.

"The baby is stable, there's moderate optimism, he is gaining weight, he weighs about 1,650 grams, oxygen is reduced, we must be careful. This is a novel situation, the baby is negative, give it time for all this to be as it should be," said Sazdanovic.

He added that for days now, more than 30 percent of samples out of the total number of infected people have been positive, which is a lot and puts pressure on the hospital system.
