Vucic thanks president of Ghana for his position regarding Serbia's territorial integrity
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic today met with President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is on a two-day visit to Serbia on the occasion of the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which marks the 60th anniversary of the Movement's founding.
Vucic welcomed Akufo-Addo in front of the Palace of Serbia with the highest state and military honors, and after the ceremony, the two presidents met face to face after which Vucic and Akufo-Addo were planned to be joined by other members of the Serbian and Ghanaians delegations. During the ceremony in the Palace of Serbia, Vucic presented Akufo-Addo with the Order of the Republic of Serbia on a ribbon. The president of Ghana was recognized for special merits in developing and strengthening cooperation and friendly relations between Serbia and Ghana.
"It is a great pleasure to have the opportunity to host you. We are very honored, this is the first visit of a president of Ghana to Serbia after many decades. I hope that you will come to Belgrade and Serbia a number of times. We have traditionally friendly relations. What is very important is that it has been agreed that the number of students to whom we will award scholarships will be doubled, from 16 to 32. We are ready to buy tropical fruits and other products from Ghana, if they have an interest in it. Thank you very much for your position on the issue of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia," said Vucic and added that he learned a lot today from "a friend, the president of Ghana". The Serbian president said that his Ghana counterpart is one of the smartest people he met from whom much can be learned.
"ou are always welcome, feel at home. We will continue to increase our presence in Ghana, in a truly dear and friendly country. I also congratulate you on the order that you, as a true friend, well deserve," Vucic added.
"We are most worried about security in our part of the world, the growth of terrorist activities in Africa and these are the areas where we can have useful cooperation with Serbia," Akufo-Addo stressed and added that he was grategul for the opportunity to visit Serbia and at the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, and for the medal presented to him.
"I have the exceptional honor to host the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Belgrade today," the president of Serbia wrote on Instagram.
In 2019, Ghana, as the 16th UN member state, withdrew its recognition of Kosovo, explaining that the decision to recognize Kosovo in 2012 was "premature."
President Akufo-Addo arrived in Belgrade on Sunday, and was welcomed by Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic.
Today, Vucic will also have bilateral meetings with officials from Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Bangladesh, India and Angola.
