Kolinda's former adviser defends Croatian police officers who beat migrants
Mirjana Hrga, a former journalist and adviser to former Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, defended Croatian border police officers who used force and beat migrants who were trying to cross from Bosnia and Herzegovina into Croatia.
She took to Facebook to comment on a recently published video showing Croatian police officers beating migrants, which was condemned by many in Croatia, but also across the region.
"All those who think that the police officers acted inappropriately while protecting the border of the Republic of Croatia from ILLEGAL entry, I suggest that they contact the Ministry of the Interior and take them home and be responsible for further actions of these migrants. I don't want them to enter my country illegally and wander the streets of our cities without any purpose, considering that in the they imagined it, they will not enter any other country," Hrga wrote.
Hrga received big support for her post. However, some did not agree, pointing out to human rights and respect of conventions. However, Hrga replied that the story is much more complex than the story of human rights.
Otherwise, the officers who assaulted the migrants are members of the intervention police unit and have been officially removed from duty three days ago while disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against them.
