Two weeks have passed since the local crisis measure has been introduced - a ban on family festivities in hospitality establishments in Novi Pazar, in order to avoid repeating the scenario from July last year, when this city was one of the biggest hotbeds of coronavirus in Serbia.

At the same time, a strong campaign has been launched to vaccinate citizens.

Dr. Sefadil Spahic, director of the Institute of Public Health in Novi Pazar, told RTS that the epidemiological situation in that city is significantly better than it was 14 days ago, but that some more time should pass in order to see the results of the measures.

"The reduction in the number of newly infected people was greatly contributed to by the religious communities reducing their religious rites," said Dr. Spahic.

According to him, more than 3,000 first doses of the vaccines were administered last month, which is still not enough. Dr. Spahic says that he worries about the low number of vaccinated young people and adds that panels will be organized in order to encourage that campaign.

As of yesterday, high school students in Novi Pazar have switched to online classes in order to stop the spread of coronavirus.
