"Duda Ivkovic got infected by pigeons": Dule Vujosevic reveals unknown detail about legend's death
Legendary Serbian coach Dusan Duda Ivkovic died in Belgrade at the age of 78 from the consequences of fluid accumlating in his lungs and herpes. On the occasion of the passing of this legend of Serbian basketball, another one, Dusko Vujosevic, spoke about him, and revealed for Prva TV that Duda got infected by pigeons, which were his great passion.
"I knew that he had some specific problems, that he got an infection from pigeons, which were his great passion, I also know that he had some problems with herpes. Although you never know what tomorrow brings you. It's that demon called tomorrow," said Vujosevic.
He stressed that this is a difficult moment for Serbian basketball, which will not be as strong and influential without Duda.
"I will remember him because we spent a part of our lives together through basketball. I don't want to list everything he has achieved in basketball, he knew how to impose himself, at one point he was also in Partizan, but mostly with the Yugoslav national team, through all the phases while it was decreasing. Maybe (I'll remember him) for the gold in Athens in 1995, but I was in touch with him in many different ways."
"When moments like this come, one also realizes the futility of greatness of sorts, but everything he did - that name will be remembered, his work will remain inscribed for all time, both through the success of the national team and through the relationships in the Basketball Association of Serbia, truly, Serbian basketball with this loss becomes less significant, regardless of age his mental strength made us all believe that he would overcome everything. Everything he did, he did in a monumental way, that dedication to pigeons, to the national team, the coaching organization... We are less strong when we are left without such a great," said Vujosevic.
Finally, Vujosevic hinted that KK Partizan will surely organize a farewell for the legendary Duda during the match between Partizan and Efes, that starts at 7 pm.
"Zeljko Obradovic (Partizan's head coach) and Duda Ivkovic were each other's best men, it will certainly be organized by the club, it happens that events get intertwined in such a way."
