The Tourist Organization of Uzice has nominated Mokra Gora for the best village, at the invitation of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Each member state can nominate a maximum of three villages, and after a meeting of the national commission of the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, it was decided that Serbia will be represented by Mokra Gora, Gostilje and Trsic.

In order for this mountain beauty in the western part of the country to shine in full splendor at the competition, in agreement with the locals, the paving of six roads and the solving key infrastructural problems that are vital for the development of that part of Serbia has started in Mokra Gora.

"The preserved cultural and natural resources and huge tourist potential have nominated Mokra Gora to the list of villages that will compete for the title of the best village, at the invitation of the World Tourism Organization," said Uzice Mayor Dr. Jelena Rakovic Radivojevic, RINA reports.

"It is up to us to do everything necessary in the coming period so that, above all, young people stay in Mokra Gora and further develop the potentials that one of the largest villages in the Uzice area has. Sarganska Osmica (Sargan Eight) and Drvengrad have already been recognized by numerous visitors and tourists from the country and abroad, and it is up to us to support new facilities and build more necessary infrastructure. "

The planned paving of roads in the total length of 1,500 meters will be financed by joint funds from the locals and the City of Uzice, while the local self-government will also use its own funds to build a road from the old church to Stolac in the length of about 2,100 meters. At the end of last year, a sports field near the village's school was reconstructed.

"We want to develop all tourist potentials of Mokra Gora in cooperation with state institutions, all in accordance with the plans related to preservation of environment and natural resources, which will surely significantly improve the quality of life of the locals, and we hope to be increasing their number," the mayor concluded.
