Watch Milenkovic's unfortunate own goal that robbed Serbia of top spot in qualifying group
The Serbian national football team was really unlucky in Dublin during a World Cup qualifier against Ireland
The Serbian national football team was dominant in Dublin. Our footballers' shots on goal went into double digits, they had countless huge chances to score, but there is a rule in football that when you don't use your chances, you get punished. That's exactly what happened to the national team led by head coach Dragan Stojkovic Piksi.
Serbia was ahead almost the entire match against Ireland as Sergej Milinkovic Savic scored in the 20th minute after a corner kick taken by Dusan Tadic. It seemed that the Serbians would take home three points, but then our defense had a catastrophic reaction.
It was minute 87 when one seemingly harmless ball ended up in front of our goal. Sergej Milinkovic Savic wanted to clear it as far away as possible, but instead of sending it to the middle of the pitch, he hit Nikola Milenkovic.
Everyone grabbed their heads, while the stadium in Dublin exploded. This point means nothing to the Republic of Ireland, but what it means to us is that that we will have to win in Portugal if we want to go to the World Cup directly.
Portugal currently lead the group with two points ahead of Serbia, with three qualifiers left to play.
