The main hotspots of coronavirus are currently crowded stadiums and parties where a large number of people gather without masks, virologist Dr. Milanko Sekler told RTS today.

However, Dr. Sekler says it is important for teachers in schools to be vaccinated, primarily for their own safety.

"Those people who work in education, and who have not been vaccinated, endanger their own health and life. They can now be relatively easily infected by children," said Dr. Sekler.

He also pointed out that he does not think that the schools are, at this moment, the hotspots of coronavirus.

"In my opinion, for now, it's not the schools, the main hotspots and places where the virus is spreading are overcrowded sports venues without any epidemiological measures. When you see some big parties and private-type celebrations, and a bunch of people come, none of whom wear masks, and then videos appear on the internet and then it makes people think, 'there, children go to school, they have to wear a mask, but no one wears them at games or celebrations, so why should I, why is the burden on the ordinary, little man'. That must not be happening, the law must be the same for everyone," said Sekler.

He added that "we cannot be creating panic as needed" - and pointed out that measures must be talked about all the time and that they must be respected.

He recalled that the measures, except for extending opening hours of hospitality establishments, have never been lifted.

"These are masking and distancing and the number of people allowed to gather. I would not lift any of the measures, but would introduce Covid passes - showing who has been vaccinated or tested so that they can enter a venue. That is the only measure that should be implemented now and absolutely respected," concluded Dr. Sekler.
