Brnabic: Epidemiological situation is getting more complicated, we talk about Covid passes every day

Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic has said that the epidemiological situation in the country is becoming more complicated and assessed that the medical part of the Crisis HQ will again insist on introducing Covid passes.

Brnabic told TV Pink that there are legal problems related to Covid passes, but added that this is discussed on a daily basis. She appealed on people to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

"That is the only way for us to collectively get rid of this misery, to beat coronavirus and live normally," said Brnabic.

She added that it seems pointless to talk about measures at a time when a vaccine is available and when it is possible to vaccinate all citizens.

"It goes against common sense. If everyone who can get vaccinated did that, we wouldn't have to talk about measures," said Brnabic.

50,000 people have received the 3rd dose

She said that 51.5 percent of the total adult population has been vaccinated with the first dose, 49.6 percent received the second, while more than 50,000 people got the third.

She said that at this time there are two things to deal with regarding coronavirus - one is vaccination with the first dose, and the other is to open additional capacities in hospitals for the health sector to be able to endure, i.e., for health workers to be providing help and support to patients who have other diseases.

Back to school

Regarding the beginning of the school year, Brnabic said that the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut" will have a special team of people who will deal with communication with schools and parents and who will monitor the situation.

"We will monitor the situation within the Crisis HQ and react if necessary if a school needs to switch to combined or online classes," said Brnabic.

She recalled that in 15 local self-governments, students in high schools will start combined classes tomorrow, while in Tutin they attend online classes due to the epidemiological situation.

The prime minister assessed that it is extremely important for children to go to school and for this to go on as long as possible, and stressed that online classes during a pandemic cannot be compared to normal school classes and school contacts.

"Not only between teachers and children, but also their mutual contact. This is especially important for the youngest elementary school children from first to fourth grade," concluded Brnabic.
