Over 56 percent of Belgraders have been vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid vaccine

Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic announced today that more than 56 percent of the adult population of the capital, i.e. about 773,000 citizens, have been vaccinated with at least one dose of the Covid vaccine as of yesterday. Both doses have been received by about 54 percent, or 553,000 people.

"To date, more than two percent of the population has received the third dose, and every day the number of people who receive that so-called booster dose is increasing," Vesic told reporters at the Belgrade Fair.

He said that the authorities are fighting to preserve normal life, so that everyone can work, adding that everyone should get vaccinated.

"There is no other cure or way. Serbia has a good result, 56 percent of vaccinated people in Belgrade, but it's still not enough for collective immunity," Vesic warned.

He noted that the number of infected people is increasing, but that no country can afford new lockdowns.

"Serbia will continue to seek measures to protect the population, public health, but also for the economy to work. The more people get vaccinated, the sooner we will continue with normal life," Vesic appealed.

He recalled that Serbia is among the few countries that have four different vaccines at their disposal, and now a fifth will arrive, which is something that even much richer countries than Serbia cannot say for themselves.
