2 arrested as record cocaine haul is seized in Montenegro: Drugs found in shipment of bananas

After last night's record seizure of more than a ton of cocaine in Montenegro, the police arrested two people while the other suspects are being looked for.

According to Vijesti, those under arrest are M.K. and B.K.

The Police Administration officially announced today that Operation 187, carried out in cooperation with the Revenue and Customs Administration, resulted in the seizure of 1,205 packages of cocaine in Mojanovici, in the Zeta area, whose total weight was over one ton.

"The drugs were found in a shipment of bananas. Two people have been deprived of their liberty," the Police Admđ stated on Twitter.

Officers of the Police Administration continued their activities on that case even today.

As part of the operation launched by the Sector for the Fight against Crime (SBPK), the Security Center Podgorica, the Security Center Bar and the Customs and Revenue Administration, several facilities were searched last night.

Several people have also been taken to the Security Center in Podgorica, and inspectors questioned them until late at night about the seized cocaine.

One of Vijesti's sources said that most of that drugs were found in Zeta.

Another claims that a part of the seized cocaine was also found in Bar.

That information has not been confirmed by officials.

Police officers effectively blocked the boulevard and the access to the Podgorica Security Center last night at around 10 pm due due to the operation.

Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic congratulated members of the police on the successful operation to seize cocaine.

"What a feat of the Montenegrin police. Congratulations to the director, management and officers of the Police Administration and the Revenue and Customs Administration on the historic cocaine seizure. We are doing what we promised. Montenegro will not be a land of crime," Abazovic said on Twitter.
