Dr. Sekler's experience: "I combined Chinese and Russian vaccines, felt unwell, but it was expected"
Milanko Sekler, a virologist and microbiologist at the Veterinary Institute in Kraljevo, said today that Serbia should conduct a larger study on the effectiveness of combining Chinese and Russian vaccines, considering that these are the most used vaccines in our country.
Speaking for TV K1, Sekler said that this would be useful, especially because of the announcements that Sputnik will be produced at the Torlak Institute in Belgrade and that a Sinopharm vaccine factory will also be opened in Serbia.
"It's logical that we, as a country that will produce those two types of vaccines, examine how they work in combination, to find the ideal combination of those two vaccines, because then you do not depend on any imports if decent protection can be achieved," Sekler said, reports Tanjug.
He repeated that, when it comes to the third dose of the vaccine against coronavirus, the experiences of foreign countries that have combined vaccines show good results, and that after two Sinovac, Pfizer and Sinopharm and Sputnik can be used as well.
Sekler said that he was conducting the experiment himself, and that after two Sinopharm vaccines he decided to get a Sputnik jab.
He added that he felt unwell on the day of vaccination and explained that it was a normal reaction of the body to a different dose of the vaccine, and that citizens who decide on that combination should not be scared by that.
He added that several of his doctor friends have also tried different combinations, so after a few weeks when they do blood tests, they will see which combination is the best and which provides the greatest protection against coronavirus.
Asked to comment on the stance of epidemiologist Predrag Kon that he will not combine vaccines, Sekler said that he respects his position, but that he, as an immunologist, is looking for a combination that gives better protection even if only by two percent.
"The most important thing is that none of these combinations endangers life, while they provide better protection. I don't see anything disputable in Kon's statement, if you receive the same dose, you definitely get protection, I look at it from the immunology standpoint, whart provides the best protection," said Sekler.
Asked to comment on claims made by some citizens that Sinopharm does not provide sufficient protection and that there are vaccinated people, mostly by the Sinopharm vaccine, among those infected, he explained that it is a vaccine that has been administered to the largest percentage of our population, so it is logical that the largest number of infected people will be among them, compared those who received vaccines that have been less used.
He called on citizens to get vaccinated and assessed that the unvaccinated will be getting infected the most in the coming period.
Sekler added that he expects that 90 percent of those vaccinated will not get infected, but that about 10 percent will, with milder symptoms.
