Ivanusa: Situation with coronavirus is very serious, there will be over 3,000 new cases next week
Marijan Ivanusa, director of the Office of the World Health Organization in Serbia has told RTS that the situation with coronavirus will be deteriorating day by day - the number of new daily cases is increasing, as are hospitalizations and deaths as a consequence of Covid.
"The situation is very serious, not only are the numbers already high, but they are increasing rapidly. We can expect more than 3,000 new cases a day as early as next week, and then that number may increase even more," says Ivanusa.
According to him, the Delta strain is spreading very fast among people and that is why it is extremely important for them to be vaccinated.
"The situation will get worse and we will see those scenes that we saw earlier during the second and third waves. The number of cases, the number of hospitalized people and, unfortunately, the number of deaths will increase daily, we have seen that in other countries - Georgia, Kazakhstan, then here in the neighborhood in North Macedonia and Montenegro," says Ivanusa.
He assessed that it is encouraging that in countries with a high percentage of vaccinated people there are significantly fewer severe cases and deaths from the consequence of the infection.
