Women wear high heels so that men would notice them, SRS leader Vojislav Seselj said today on Pink TV's morning program, commenting on the position of women in Afghanistan.

"As for women, (he said referring to Muslim women), they have their own traditions. There are also those in Serbia who wear scarves," said Seselj, to which the host added that these are now extreme cases in Afghanistan, where women are not allowed to wear heels, leave the house unaccompanied by men, they get their fingers cut off if they wear nail polish...

"In all European countries, laws are passed where it is forbidden for a man to look at a woman in a suspicious way, let alone anything else. And women insist on dressing provocatively. Well, women dress up and wear heels to attract the attention of men," said the leader of the Radicals.

"Otherwise why would they be wearing high heels? It's torture for every woman," he said even though the presenter, who was a woman, protested and tried to prove that his attitude was wrong.

The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday after the president of Afghanistan fled the country. They entered the presidential palace and hoisted their flag, which was followed by a mass exodus.

This happened a few weeks before the US military was to fully withdraw from Afghanistan.

The Taliban by and large controlled Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, when they were overthrown, and, considering that during their previous rule women were not allowed to go out without a burqa and male escort, and girls were not allowed to go to school, it is expected that similar fate awaits them now.
