Policewoman Maja M. died on Tuesday evening of an electric shock on the balcony of a family apartment in the Belgrade municipality of Zvezdara. The unfortunate woman was killed while setting up a cable on computers she used to mine the cryptocurrency Ethereum, the daily Informer writes.

Maja's body was found on the balcony by her husband Bojan M., who is also employed by the Ministry of the Interior.

The incredible tragedy happened in the late afternoon on Tuesday in a building in Brace Ribnikara Street.

"That day, Bojan spoke to his wife Maja on the phone several times, and she told him during one of those conversations that she would finish work around 3:30 pm and go straight to the apartment. However, he stayed at work a little longer, so he tried to call Maja to tell her that he would be late, but she did not answer. Bojan then tried to call his wife several more times, but since she still did pick up, he got worried and went to the apartment," a source told Informer.

According to them, Bojan found the apartment's front door unlocked and immediately started calling Maja's name, but heard no reply. She was neither in the living room nor in the bedroom, so he tried once more calling her on the phone. Her cell phone rang in the kitchen, but there was no sign of Maja.

"The worried man only then went to the balcony, where two computers are set up for cryptocurrency mining, and there he found his wife lying unconscious. He immediately called an ambulance, but Maja could not be saved. As the first results from the investigation showed, she died of an electric shock, most likely while handling a computer cable," said the source from the investigation and added that Maja's body has been taken for an autopsy.

A neighbor of the couple says that he was in his apartment on Tuesday afternoon when he heard a popping sound. However, he thought that Maja or Bojana had dropped a heavy object on the floor of their apartment.

"A little later, in the evening, I heard Bojan calling out to Maja, and I only realized that something terrible had happened when the police and the ambulance arrived in front of the building. I can't believe that Maja was killed by electricity," said the shocked neighbor.

As he added, Bojan and Maja kept the windows on the glazed balcony constantly open because of the heat generated by the cryptocurrency mining computers.
