Bajatovic: Price of gas remains $260 for 1,000 cubic meters, we will monitor the situation
Despite the price increase elsewhere, gas continue to be sold to Serbia for 260 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters, says the general director of the public company Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic.
Two days ago, the price of gas exceeded 585 dollars for 1,000 cubic meters, and Bajatovic says that this is a big jump in the price, higher even than in 2008, when most of Europe and Serbia were left without that energy source for days.
He told the daily Politika that, if any changes occur, the public will be informed and added that Russian gas supplied to Serbia by Gazprom was cheaper by about 160 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters than in the rest of Europe even before this latest price increase.
"The situation will be monitored in the coming days, so we will see if there will be a change in prices when the time comes to sign new contracts," said Bajatovic.
Srecko Djukic, who is well-versed in gas conditions in Europe, says that "such price increases are normal in the summer when gas is usually bought and stored for the winter, and there is not enough of it".
He expects that the price of gas for consumers in Serbia will also increase. "I am not familiar with solutions from the long-term contract that could guarantee lower gas prices," said Djukic.
The Ministry of Energy says that the supply of natural gas in Serbia is stable and that the price of this energy source is regulated in a long-term contract, which is valid until the beginning of 2022, writes the Belgrade newspaper.
