Man dies in blaze near Negotin: He lost his life trying to put out a fire
D.S. (60) from Stubik was killed in a fire that broke out on his property in the hamlet of Reka when a fire from low vegetation spread to a nearby auxiliary facility, carried by the wind, Novosti reports.
It is assumed that D S. tried to put out the fire, but that it instead engulfed his clothes and body causing him to probably run through it, and fall down a hill.
He was found with signs of burns, after members of the Fire and Rescue Department from Negotin and four locals extinguished the fire that was spreading from a shed and in the open.
Unfortunately, the man could not be saved.
Negotin firefighters, despite making numerous appeals on fellow citizens not to light fires in open space, have been working around the clock this past month and a half.
In August alone, they intervened 26 times to put out fires set to low vegetation. The fires burned on 410 hectares of arable land this August, and also destroyed a 30 square meter building, three buses, and one tractor.
