Red Star fans show up in early hours to lift spirits of their players after shock UCL elimination
When things get tough, Delije (Red Star supporters) show up.
Red Star players do not have to worry about support even after the embarrassment they experienced in Tiraspol, where they were beaten by the home team FC Sheriff 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate) and eliminated from the further course of qualifications for the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
Captain Milan Borjan and his teammates arrived in Belgrade in a bad mood in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, but they quickly regained some faint smiles because they were greeted by their fans.
As soon as the footballers left the airport building, they heard thunderous chants of "Red Star, Red Star." Dozens of guys from the group headed towards the players, cheering them and making it clear they stood with them now that they are going through a complicated period.
The players stood silently, listening and watching the fans, some made videos. Goalkeeper Borjan was for some reason the happiest when he saw the group of young men, he was among the first to stand in front of his teammates, and recorded the scene on his phone.
