Greece, which has been ravaged by wildfires for days, has received help from Serbia.

Our firefighters, together with their Greek colleagues, are fighting against the blaze in the first lines of defense.

Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes in Greece due to the fires that have been burning for eight days. More than 150 fires caused by the strongest heat wave in the last 30 years have so far swallowed thousands of hectares of forests.

The Greek island of Evia is hit the hardest, with more than 2,000 hectares of land and forests having burned.

Animals have been killed in the fire, houses and warehouses destroyed, as well as production plants.

Firefighters are constantly fighting the fires, and dozens of aircraft have been deployed as well, including helicopters from Serbia.

Our firefighters are already very much on the ground and helping their colleagues in endangered areas on Evia. Distressing videos showing our firefighters in the blazing cauldron are coming from Greece, but also photos of them embracing their Greek colleagues, who are very grateful to them for coming to help.

The Greeks are also very grateful to the Serbian firefighters, which is evident in comments left on social networks. They are leaving messages of gratitude beneath a photo of a Greek and a Serbian firefighter: "Serbs, you are a wonderful people," "Thank you, brothers," "Always there when needed," "Thank you very much for being with us in these difficult moments"...

Climate change and frequent catastrophes that have hit the world are just the beginning of an avalanche of changes that global warming has led to and that we will only be able to fight it together.
