After British, Delta strain will also become dominant in Serbia: Watch our for these 4 symptoms
Dr. Snezana Jovanovic, director of the Vatreno Oko laboratory at the University Clinical Center of Serbia, told RTS that the British strain of coronavirus still dominates in Serbia, but that the Delta strain is also present. She explains which symptoms are characteristic of this type of coronavirus.
Dr. Snezana Jovanovic told RTS that 300 to 350 PC tests are done in the laboratory every day. She said that samples from Belgrade are being tested, primarily sent by the Infectious Diseases Clinic, and the number of positive ones is slightly increasing.
The director of Vatreno Oko points out that the sequencing of the samples that have been sent for testing showed that all of them were the British strain, except for two Deltas.
"Bacteria and viruses know no borders. While we were in lockdown, the strain that was the initial one dominated. After that, people started to travel, they may travel more slowly than microorganisms, but we are sure that after the British, the Delta strain will become dominant, it spreads faster and the clinical picture will be different. These are mostly symptoms of a cold, fever, it appears as a cough, some do not lose the sense of smell," Jovanovic pointed out.
She believes that most PCR tests are done commercially, i.e., citizens get tested in order to travel.
"In Vatreno Oko we only have bar codes, we don't know names and last names, but in contact with clinicians, that is exactly the fact - most of the samples are commercial tests. I appeal on citizens to behave adequately on vacation, because by returning from other countries and from vacation, people can become infected," she said.
Jovanovic added that PCR tests are done only by state laboratories, while some private biochemical laboratories do antigen tests. She urged citizens to be well informed about where they get their tests done so they are not turned back from the border.
