GOLD!!! Serbia celebrates Tsaritsa Milica! Mandic is Olympic champion again!
Bravo Milica, bravo tsaritsa!!! The Serbian taekwondo fighter Milica Mandic has won a gold Olympic medal, the first for our country in Tokyo!
In the final, Mandic defeated Korea's Dabin Lee 10-7, and thus repeated the success from 2012, when she also took the top medal. The only difference is that this time she competed in the 67+ kilogram category.
Earlier in the day, Milica first defeated Poland's Aleksandra Kowalczuk in the quarterfinals (11-4,) and then France's Althea Laurin (7-5), who has in the meantime won the bronze.
Our athlete took a 5-0 lead at the start! First, it was a kick to the head for three points, then a kick to the armor for two points. The Korean took one point at the beginning of the second part, and on that occasion, the challenge requested by Milica's coach Dragan Jovic did not help either.
Shortly afterwards, Lee's coach asked for a challenge, too, dissatisfied with the fact that Milica won one point in a direct duel. Milica's rival took two points, and the score stood at 6-3.
In the last minute, the Korean took one point with a punch, and then equalized 6-6 before Milica won a point as well for 7- 6. She then secured three more in the final moments for a 10-7 victory.
Othewise, this was Mandic's last match, since she has already announced her retirement from the sport. As for her earnings, Milica will get 70,000 euros from the state for winning the gold.
