Wildfires in Uvac Canyon: Mt. Zlatibor covered in smoke, firefighters struggling to contain blaze
The wider area of Mt. Zlatibor was under thick clouds of smoke this morning, while the smell of burnt matter spread, which, the daily Blic has found out, is the consequence of two fires in the territory of Priboj and Nova Varos.
For the third day in a row, fire brigades from Priboj, Prijepolje, and Uzice have been fighting the fire on the Crni Vrh mountain in the Priboj territory, which connects to Zlatibor on the opposite side of the Uvac River.
There was a big fire a few years ago in the same location, in inaccessible terrain, and now a pine forest is burning on a huge area.
At the same time, another pine forest is burning in the area of Rutosi, a village near Nova Varos. In both places, firefighters are making great efforts to suppress the blaze, but they say that the problem are large layers of pine needles and branches where the fire is seemingly put out, only to erupt again.
The inaccessible terrain is another problem faced by firefighters, as well as very high air temperatures.
