Vucic said that we have everything that is needed to face a new wave

"I am afraid that it will get worse before the fall, our numbers are growing. They’re still good, but they’re growing, that’s bad. I am afraid of all new strains, that is why we are building a hospital in Novi Sad, which will be ready by September,"President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced during today's press conference at the St. Sava Special Hospital for Cerebrovascular Diseases in Belgrade.

As he said, we currently have everything necessary to face a new wave.

"We have machines and medicines. We have no problems with human or hospital capacities, as well as beds in intensive and semi-intensive care. But any increase in infection is killing the country - its economic capacity, economic performance, growth rate. Epidemiologists are carefully monitoring this and doing their job in the best possible way," Vucic added.

He announced that the Ministry of Health will soon make a decision regarding the construction of new capacities.

"We have 12,000 square meters. One option is to take the garage in the building of the former Borovo and invest at least 1,000 euros per square meter, which would be about 12, 13 million euros, or to find a clean plot of 10,000 or 11,000 square meters not far from here, where we would build a new hospital. However, I do not want to interfere in the decision of the hospital management and the doctors in this hospital. People came here, they had the highest quality of service. Now we also have 'Mercedes' machines, we will save two or three more lives a day than before," said the president.

He added that healthcare is one of the foundations of the state.

"Healthcare is more than a quarter of our budget. Healthcare is the essence of the standard of living, our parents come here, we bring our children, in the end we are the ones who come here."
