Video of arrest of a man who attacked a woman in Novi Sad: She shouted, "Help, call the police!"
Last night shortly after 8 pm a young man attacked a woman in the passage of a building at 16 Strazilovska Street in Novi Sad, and she alerted her neighbors by calling for help.
"At one point, there was noise and a call for help. The young woman shouted, 'Help, call the police', we did not see what was happening, but the neighbors reacted and the police soon arrived and arrested the attacker," one of the residents told NS Uzivo.
The young man was found not far from the place of the attack, in the same street, at number 35.
Patrols from the Stari Grad station came to the scene. As can be seen in the video, the police stood with the young man in front of the van where they searched him before he was taken into custody.
During that time, the young woman spoke with two police officers in the passage of the building. When the police took away her attacker, she got into a police vehicle, most likely to give a statement.
This case is reminiscent of the attack that happened in Alekse Santica Street when Dejan Dabovic from Herceg Novi, Montenegro, slit the throat of his ex-girlfriend in front of the building and in front of passers-by. He afterwards, in cold blood, went to a hotel and prepared to flee. He was sentenced to life in prison for that crime.
Cases like this can easily escalate into the loss of life, and more and more videos of attacks against women happening in public places have been appearing on social media.
