Dr. Grujicic's alarming warning: "Cancers typical of older people are now appearing in children"

"Tumors that were previously seen only in the older population have beguan to appear in children and young people," says Professor Dr. Danica Grujicic, director of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.

"It is necessary to find out whether this is directly related with the consequences of the NATO bombing in 1999."

Dr. Grujicic and Dr. Zorka Vukmirovic, who is a doctor of physical chemistry, are the editors of the monograph, "The truth about the consequences of the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia."

Eminent professors from Serbian universities from various fields - medicine, physics, chemistry, environmental protection - participated in the preparation of the monograph, each of whom provided analyses of the consequences of the 1999 NATO bombing.

"In practice, we have a much larger number of pathological pregnancies, autoimmune diseases, chromosomal aberrations, as well as male infertility. These phenomena are what Professor Dr. Slobodan Cikaric has linked with the increased level of radiation that is a consequence of the NATO bombing, and it is up to all of us in the scientific community to examine and prove whether there is causality," said Professor Grujicic.

The monograph presents data for the period between 1999 and 2018, and in that time the number of malignant diseases increased in statistically significant terms.

"For example, in 2015, we had 38,000 new (cancer) cases and 21,000 deaths. In addition to that, according to the European Cancer Information System, Serbia is one of the countries at medium risk. But all Balkan countries have a high mortality rate from this disease, which could again be associated with the consequences of radiation," said Professor Grujicic.

The director of the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia believes that it is necessary to create a unique electronic register of cancer patients.

Also, according to her, it is necessary to form a centralized body at the state level, which will include experts from various scientific fields who will examine the consequences of the NATO bombing and its links with the increase in the number patients with malignant diseases.
