All because of Covid: "City Sanitation workers threatened with guns, their vehicles pelted by rocks"

City Sanitation workers who are tasked with mosquito suppression have been attacked on several occasions because citizens think they are spreading coronavirus. The company's representatives say that this creates a lot of problems in dealing with issues that were uncontroversial before the pandemic lockdowns.

Milica Rankovic says workers even got threated with firearms.

"These attacks take the shape of our vehicles getting pelted by rocks, our workers insulted, cursed at, people throwing themselves under the wheels. This week, we even had a threat with a gun, with (the attacker) saying that the workers won't live if they come back to finish the job," Rankovic described the unpleasant incidents for Telegraf.rs.

"Our teams are traumatized, scared and worried. They return to the ecology sector. They can't continue their work. This is happening, we assume, because our fellow citizens were locked down last year due to the epidemic. We plead with our fellow citizens to understand that we are controlling adult forms of mosquitoes, so that people don't get bitten and contract West Nile virus."

The City Sanitation once again explained that the gas used to control mosquitoes does not transmit coronavirus, and that it is safe for humans.

However, City Sanitation will continue to suppress mosquitoes, using both vehicles and boats, but also airplanes.
