As of today, Serbia is officially on the list of countries for which restrictions on travel to the EU have been removed.

Today's decision of the EU Council refers to allowing entry across the borders of the countries of the European Union, but health measures still remain, they note in Brussels.

"The EU Council calls on member states to gradually lift restrictions on the external borders for inhabitants of Albania, Australia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Rwanda, Singapore, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand and the US starting June 18, 2021 - and China, under the condition of reciprocity," a statement said today.

The European Commission says that the expansion of the list of "safe" third countries is "welcome news" that speaks to improved epidemiological situation in more and more countries and regions.

The Commission notes that this recommendation of the Council refers to allowing entry across the borders of the countries of the European Union, but health measures still remain.

"This means that citizens who come from these countries should be allowed to enter, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated, and whether they have an important reason to travel. At the same time, the recommendation implies that member states can request a PCR test for passengers, including further measures such as testing upon arrival or quarantining," said Commission spokesman Adalbert Janz.

He added that it is up to member states to determine which measures to implement, based on the epidemiological situation.

The EU Council notes that the list of "safe" third countries will be updated every two weeks.
