Unheard of violence in Prokuplje school yard: Father savagely kicks son during graduation party

A serious incident happened in the yard of an elementary school located in the vicinity of Prokuplje. Namely, the father of a boy approached a group of students celebrating graduation, pulled him out of the crowd, after which he knocked him down onto the concrete and proceeded to savagely kick him.

The other children were shocked to see what was happening and none of them dared to react and prevent this horrific violence.

As Kurir has learned unofficially, the students were celebrating the end of the school year, and the father decided to interrupt that and take out his rage on his son in front of a yard full of children.

The school's director told Kurir that the incident happened on Monday around half past one, when the students organized the celebration themselves and invited a band of trumpeters. Fortunately, the incident happened while the teachers were still at school.

"The boy who was beaten was not one of those graduating, but a seventh grade student, who joined the celebration of his friends. At one point, his father came, and no one could even suspect what would happen next. I wasn’t at the school when it happened, but I was shocked when I saw the beating captured on video. The father pulled the child away and beat him savagely, while the whole incident was stopped by one of our brave teachers," said the school director and added that the school reacted immediately afterwards.

According to him, the school team set up to deal with violence met, discussed the incident, and a child protection plan was proposed.

"I reported the case to the Center for Social Welfare, the police, and the school administration of Nis. Both myself as the director and the teachers who witnessed the incident gave our statements. The police did not come to the school, but I learned that he (the father) was later questioned by the police and that he was ordered to be removed from the home."

The prosecutor was informed about the case and a procedure will be initiated against the father - the interlocutor said. He added that the school is ready to cooperate with the authorities, but that their priority is the student who was assaulted, as well as the children who watched the violence.

"The children who found themselves there experienced great trauma. It was obvious that they froze with fear, and they will be interviewed separately in the coming days so as not to affect their psychological state. As for the boy who got beaten, he was not at school today because he was at the Center for Social Welfare and undergoing medical examinations. As soon as he starts classes again, our psychologist will pay full attention to him to help him overcome the trauma as soon as possible," the director concluded.
