The first half of this summer will be warm with frequent storms and local precipitation, while less rainy and more sunny and warm days are expected in August than in July, RHMZ meteorologist Nedeljko Todorovic said today.

Speaking for K1 TV, he stressed that June and July will be warmer, but with frequent local showers and thunderstorms, while less precipitation and more sunny days are expected day the end of July and August.

"We expect August to be warmer compared to July, and in general the first half of the summer, which starts in June in meteorological terms," he said.

Speaking about thunderstorms, Todorovic said that their season is the end of April until the beginning of October, as well as that the maximum number of thunder clouds are present at the end of June and in the first half of July.

He stressed that thunder clouds form in 5 to 10 minutes in a micro site, as a rule in the afternoon.

"The first thing is prevention. If you are going outdoors, look at the forecast for thunder clouds. If you are already outside, go towards the nearest solid object when you first hear the thunder. You should never be in a field, or on the water, or next to a lone tree during a thunderstorm," he said.

He added that people who find themselves in the open in nature can find shrubs or bushes where they can lie down or squat.

"Just so you doesn't stick out above a flat surface," he said.

Retired ETF professor Milan Savic said that people should find shelter in a closed space, or find next to buildings during a thunderstorm.

"Cars provide good protection, never an open space. Nature should be avoided if thunder is expected," he said.

Apartments that are protected by lightning rods are safe, Savic stressed and added that there could be problems with illegal construction.

"It's not necessary to keep away from windows. If lightning protection is done properly, it doesn't matter which floor of the building you are on during a storm," he said.

He also pointed out that computers and TV set should be protected with overvoltage protection devices in order to prevent damage.
