Four people were killed in a serious traffic accident during which a van and a truck collided on the Zavlaka-Tekeris road at around 6:30 this morning.

Two more were seriously injured, while one person has slight wounds.

The van was transporting farm workers, while the Novi Sad license plates truck was moving in the direction of Krupanj.

According to initial information, the driver of the van and three workers, strawberry  pickers, died in the crash. Residents of local villages of Joseva and Miline, seven ofo them, were in the van.

The doctors could do nothing except pronounce Goran M., Radojka J., Sofija B. and Radislava T. dead at the scene. S.Z., D.Z., and L.M. have been seriously injured.

The accident occurred under for now unexplained circumstances. According to initial and unofficial information, the accident happened when the truck crashed into the van as it was trying to enter the road. The truck arrived in Tekeris from the direction of the village of Volujac.

The truck driver, Novi Sad resident Milenko T., was tested for alcohol and it was determined that he had none in his blood. The cause of the tragedy will be known after the investigation has been completed.

Those injured have been rushed to the General Hospital in Loznica.

The Roads of Serbia public company said that traffic near Tekeris, on the intersetion of state roads II A order number 138 and II A order number 138 was suspended due to the accident.

Traffic is being rerouted to alternative roads.

An investigation is under way.
