Ivana in Tel Aviv tells Telegraf.rs: We were in shelters yesterday, expecting new attacks and afraid

After a sleepless night, during which more than 100 rockets were fired at Tel Aviv, the city is calm today, Ivana Savic Azulaj, who is in the capital of Israel, confirmed for Telegraf.rs. However, she says new attacks are expected tonight.

Ivana lives in Tel Aviv and works at the medical faculty in that city. Like many residents of the capital city, she spent the previous night in fear after an escalation of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

According to the Serbian woman, the city is peaceful today.

"Yesterday around 9 pm, the sirens sounded, we went down to the shelter, along with all residents of the building. It took about an hour, over 100 rockets were fired at Tel Aviv alone, and this number is far higher for other cities in Israel, especially for cities between Gaza and Tel Aviv, in that southern zone," Ivana told Telegraf.rs.

Ivana says that, although it was calm on Wednesday, people are scared and expect that new attacks will start tonight at around 8 pm.

"At the moment there is the Muslim holiday of Ramadan so Muslims mostly sleep during the day and get activated when the sun goes down. It has to do with their activities, which is why we expect them to be there tonight," our interlocutor stressed.

She says the conflict is likely to last for some time, certainly during the next few days.

"Nobody believes that it will stop very soon," she says.

This young scientist says that all kindergartens, schools and institutions in Tel Aviv are closed today.

"I work at the Medical Faculty in Tel Aviv and the entire faculty is closed, so we are all at home," explains Savic Azulaj.

Ivana posted a photo of the faculty building on Twitter, which got hit by a shrapnel last night.

"A shrapnel hit the roof of the building where I work. This is the roof of the hallway on the 10th floor, my laboratory is right next door," Ivana wrote on Twitter.

The school is located in the northern part of Tel Aviv.

In the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the number of victims increased today to at least 43 people killed in Gaza and six in Israel, Reuters reported earlier in the day.

Palestinian forces have confirmed that they fired 210 missiles at Tel Aviv and Be'er Sheva after an Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, while the Israeli military said it shot down a third of those rockets and had targeted militants in Gaza in response to rocket attacks on Jerusalem and other areas.
