This is how Gendarmerie diving unit dominates rivers: They save people, and fight crime

Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said today that the state is committed to returning to the rivers and raising the level of security with a strong fight against all types of crime, primarily smuggling of excise products.

Minister Vulin, who attended a drill staged by members of the Gendarmerie's Diving Unit, pointed out that the police would resolutely oppose all types of violations of the law on the rivers, from illegal vessels to a strong fight against all types of crime.

As Minister Vulin stressed, top notch professionalism of the members of the Diving Unit of the Gendarmerie guarantees the safety of our rivers and the areas of their banks.

"I am glad to see that you are preparing, that you are practicing, and everything that you have shown today is certainly not the result of one exercise and one preparation. This needs work put into it, and work yields results," said Minister Vulin, who thanked members of the Diving Unit for their patience and perseverance.

Stressing that Serbia relies on these guys when times get tough, the minister stressed that they perform extremely complex tasks under water and on its surface, and that the state will continue to invest in their equipment and training, because nothing that protects the health and lives of police officers is too expensive.

According to him, members of the Gendarmerie are ready, skilled and trained to prevent any attempt to endanger the security and stability of our country from the water, even in the worst weather conditions, whether the assailants be terrorists, organized criminal groups, or smugglers of excise goods.

Members of the Diving Unit of the Gendarmerie performed a tactical-demonstration drill, during which they demonstrated skills and abilities in rescuing people from the water and pulling them out with the help of the Helicopter Unit, as well as charging into vessels and defeating criminals.
