"No greater crime than attack on children": Selakovic's condolences after massacre in Russia

Reacting to an attack on a school in Kazan, Russia, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic today offered his condolences to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov.

"Serbia, its citizens and me personally have been deeply shaken by the tragic events in Kazan, where a large number of children lost their lives in a monstrous attack on a school. There is no greater sin and crime than attacking children, and there are no words with which, as a person and a parent, I can express my pain to you," Minister Selakovic said in his message.

According to him, Serbia and its citizens stand with the people of the Russian Federation in these difficult times, with their hearts and thoughts.

"In addition to the deepest sympathies, we also send you messages of encouragement and a desire to persevere in the fight against the evil that has taken the lives of innocent children," said Selakovic.

At least nine people, including eight children and a teacher, were killed in the shooting in the Kazan school.

Russian media first reported that two attackers, aged 17 and 19, took part in the shooting spree, and that one was arrested, while the other was killed.

However, according to the authorities, only one attacker took part in the massacre, who most likely once attended this school.

The police said that they arrested a teenager who is suspected of entering the school armed with an automatic rifle and opening fire.
