Ana Brnabic reveals how much of the railway will be upgraded for speeds of 200 kilometers per hour

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Monday that the agreement that Serbia will sign with its partners in the EU for complete modernization of the Belgrade-Nis railway envisages that as much as 56 percent of the railway will be suitable for trains moving at 200 kilometers per hour.

"An estimate of how much extending the railway from Nis to Presevo will cost us will follow," Brnabic replied to journalists after the signing of a contract for a loan financing the project of modernization of the railway sector in Serbia using a multi-phase program approach. The deal was signed with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the World Bank.

The prime minister said that the goal is to modernize the railway sector in Serbia, to increase its efficiency with the help of digitization, management of railway assets and otherwise. She mentioned that the railway is the best type of transport when it comes to the impact on the environment.

"We are also working on a project to modernize the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railway, where works should start by the end of this year. It is all part of the overall green agenda," said Ana Brnabic.
