What scenes at KBC Zvezdara: They discharge last Covid patient and wait to be out of hazmat suits

The last Covid patient was discharged from KBC (Clinical and Hospital Center) Zvezdara in Belgrade on Friday. This event was marked with a selfie. Under the masks, the smiles of healthcare workers cannot be seen, but it can be heard in their voice. Predrag Matic (44) was happy to welcome the day when he will see off the Covid system patients.

He normally works as a technician in the opthalmology ward, but since April last year he has been contributing to the fight against the epidemic. He also explains how they dealt with the infection that came in a few waves. They were first working on that in April and May, then part time during the summer. Later, they returned to the Covid system in November and that lasted until January. With the decline in the number of infected people, they left the system briefly and after a month's break, were back in it.

That lasted until Friday. And the return to normal will come on May 17.

"That is when we are supposed to exit the Covid system," Matic said, adding that a part of this healthcare institution has already done that, and that the part in Dimitrija Tucovica Street is next, as the process will be taking place gradually.

He also revealed his great wish for Telegraf.rs.

"We're waiting to get out of hazmat suits. I miss my job," Matic says, adding that he hopes life will return to normal soon.

He also tells us that he was infected himself.

"That was when the largest number of my colleagues got infected, in November, December. I had bilateral pneumonia, I was in the hospital for 18 days," he said, adding that he recently got vaccinated.

He chose the Pfizer vaccine based on the experience of his colleagues who measured the level of antibodies in the blood.

"I'm supposed to get the second dose now," he told us.

He is also happy because the ward, which can receive 100 patients, has been emptied.

"We saw off the last patient from the Covid geriatrics of the KBC Zvezdara. With the hope and desire that we have also seen this scourge off, we are forever moving towards some new victories," he wrote below the photo.
