Dr. Vukomanovic: Child has a severe consequence of Covid, left side of his body is paralyzed

There are fewer children getting infected with coronavirus. However, doctors fear that the return to school after the spring break and holidays will affect the epidemiological situation.

Professor Dr. Vladislav Vukomanovic from the Institute of Health Protection of Mother and Child told RTS that two children are being treated in that institution and that their health condition is stable.

He said that one of the most severe consequences of Covid 19 in children is the multisystem inflammatory syndrome.

"One of the patients has a very severe consequence, a hemoparesis or stroke, paralysis of the left side of the body and it is the most severe neurological complication we have had," said Dr. Vladislav Vukomanovic.

He also says that the patient had myocarditis, but his condition is improving.

"That is the clinical picture of these patients, but in the end the outcome of the treatment is satisfactory, we will see how it will end in this case," said Dr. Vukomanovic.

According to him, the number of examinations of children at the Institute of Health Protection of Mother and Chil in Belgrade is decreasing, and that, he says, is extremely good news.
