Young man dies of electric shock in Ruma after climbing railroad car: 25,000 volts threaten there
Authorities are making an appeal on everyone, particularly the younger population, not to climb onto railroad cars in stations and on railways
A young man was killed this morning at the train station in Ruma by electric shock, when he tried to climb on top of a freight train car.
The car was stationary on the sixth track, waiting for equipment to be loaded and transported to Sid.
The accident happened this morning at 3:20 am, and police officers and an ambulance crew went to the scene.
The young man was immediately transported to the hospital, where he died.
The company Srbija Kargo (Serbia Cargo) and Serbian Railway Infrastructure are making an appeal especially on the younger population, not to climb onto railroad cars in stations and on railways, because they in that way directly endanger their lives.
25,000 volts pass through the contact grid, and in order for an accident to occur, it is not necessary to touch a wire but merely to enter the electrical energy arc, which can be several meters away from the contact grid, said the authorities.
Three to four people die every year in Serbia after climbing railroad cars as a result of electric shock, and most often these are young people.
