"No mass indoor gatherings for a long time yet": Darija Kisic warns the virus is still dangerous
Crisis HQ member Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that mass gatherings indoors will not be possible in Serbia for a long time yet.
"I would like to appeal once again on all citizens of our country who, for whatever reason, have not been vaccinated so far, to do that as soon as possible in order to preserve their health and the health of their loved ones. That is the key to our fight, practically everything depends on us, not on the Crisis HQ, not on some fifth, tenth person, but on each individual, we are all equally important in the fight against this virus."
She told TV Prva that the Crisis HQ sits every week, and that there is not much room for relaxing the measures.
"We have one of the most flexible set of measures that have proven to be quite effective, compared to other countries. The fact is that, although we are registering a downward trend in the incidence of infections, that number is still in the thousands," she noted, adding that these are still significant numbers.
Kisic Tepavcevic said that this is a decline, but that the correction of the measures is being done in accordance with the epidemiological situation.
She added that meetings of the Crisis HQ are held regularly and that it is an exaggeration to attach so much importance to their schedules.
"Objectively, all cards are on the table. We know that the virus is here and we know what we need to do," she said.
The virus still hasn't disappeared even in Israel, don't think about privileges
As Kisic Tepavcevic said, Israel is a country with good vaccination coverage and the images we see from that country come from open air spaces, but there are also restrictions there as well when it comes to closed spaces and the virus has not disappeared yet.
"It's a completely wrong concept to think of vaccination as something that will open the way for us to travel to a country or visit someplace.... Vaccination is exclusively a weapon that will allow us to fight this virus effectively and save lives. The concept of thinking about whether vaccinated people should have some privileges is wrong. The biggest privilege is that in that way they provided a high probability that even if they come in contact with the virus they will either have no symptoms or, and that's the essence, they will save lives in that way," said Kisic Tepavcevic.
Coronavurs is not like tetanus, responsibility for vaccination is greater
Dr. Kisic Tepavcevic compared how important vaccination against coronavirus is for people around us with vaccination against tetanus.
"There are some infectious diseases, the best example is, say, tetanus. There is a vaccine out there. And if someone has a potentially tetanogenic wound, they should get the vaccine. If someone refuses vaccination for any reason, it is exclusively a risk for them, because that bacterium is not transmitted from person to person. And that is exclusively a personal choice. But with transmittable diseases, such as coronavirus, it is a much broader concept than a personal choice."
" By refusing to be vaccinated when a vaccine is available you not only put yourself at risk, but also put your entire environment at risk of infecting them, ultimately reducing the collective immunity of your population. The word 'collective' is constantly mentioned when it comes to coronavirus, only as a collective, united, can we defeat coronavirus."
