"Our choice is only one - supporting UEFA" - Serbian FA officially addresses "European Super League"

Unfortunately, as things stand now it seems that a competition of rich clubs, the so-called European Super League, will be formed. Although many do not agree with that and express protest againdt it together with supporters, the plan will be implemented.

The Football Federation of Serbia (FSS) also protested against this all, publishing an official statement on its website this morning. They condemn the formation of a new competition, stressing that its only concern is the interest of the said handful of clubs.

"The football world has been hit by an earthquake in the form of a decision by a group of rich clubs to form a closed competition, without the supervision of UEFA or FIFA, called the European Super League. UEFA issued a sharp and warning statement to anyone who would like to be part of this project. National federations also reacted, many former aces, the impression is that the football world is united around this decision with a common message that this is a project based only on the interest of these clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever, that is, that football is based on open competitions and sporting merits and cannot be different," said the statement.

The Football Association of Serbia, whose leaders are acting President Marko Pantelic and Secretary General Jovan Surbatovic, are attending the 45th UEFA Congress, which starts today in the Swiss city of Montreux, and fully support the decision of the European Football Association (UEFA) that there is no place in European football for this kind of competition.

"The Football Association of Serbia expresses a clear position against the formation of a new European competition, the so-called 'League of the Rich' - a competition which, with its displayed egoism, takes away from football what has made it the most popular sport around the world, a sense of togetherness and solidarity. A game that unites instead of separating, a game that allows everyone to dream, belongs to the joint family of UEFA and FIFA, a system of harmonious and organized football structures. The Football Federation of Serbia gives maximum support to UEFA in its efforts to make the football family come out of all this even stronger. Simply put, football on the pitch, through history and results, cannot and must not differentiate between the rich and the poor. And that is the greatest value of football. A champion could be an outsider, the favorite could be eliminated. Everyone has the right to choose, our choice is only one - supporting UEFA," the statement concludes.
