Dr. Adzic: There are indications the Brazilian strain of coronavirus has arrived in Serbia
A slight drop in the number of patients has also been seen in the Covid hospital in Batajnica. The director of the hospital, Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic, said that 825 patients are currently being treated in that institution, while there had been 915 on March 30. She also said that there are indications that the Brazilian strain has arrived among our population.
Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic told RTS that in the previous period there had been 80 to 90 admissions to the hospital per day, and that now this number is half that.
Asked what influenced the decline in the number of patients and those hospitalized, she pointed out two things - vaccination and respecting of measures.
She added that she still cannot make any optimistic statements when it comes to coronavirus and the pandemic.
"Although mass vaccination is in progress, although the measures are being respected, there is still no room to relax because there are people in the hospital behind me who exhibit very difficult clinical pictures. There are many young people without previous illnesses who are on artificial breathing devices," stressed Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic.
She pointed out that, according to data from domestic virologists, the British strain of the virus is mostly in circulation now and it is characterized by high transmission, a more serous clinical picture and higher mortality rate.
"According to the data of our eminent virologists, there is mostly the British strain of the virus. Now it has very much taken over. There are indications from my colleagues that the Brazilian strain has appeared in our population. Every mutated strain that appears is worse in terms of the clinical picture, the spread, mortality," said Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic.
She stated that there are indications that the Brazilian strain has also appeared in the population.
She told citizens to respond to the immunization program because that is the only way to stop the virus.
She says that there are those who have been vaccinated with both doses and have been hospitalized, but notes that in 99% of cases they return home, and that unfortunately a small number of them end up as fatalities. However, she added that this data is the same in all countries in the world.
Dr. Adzic Vukicevic added that even after vaccination, measures must be respected and masks must be worn indoors.
