Two police officers battered a young man last weekend in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, who said that the only violation he committed had to do with anti-epidemic measures.

Along with posting the footage of the event, the man wrote that the police took him to the station after beating him in front of the entrance to the building where he lives, after which they released him with a misdemeanor complaint for violating the curfew, reports the Pogled.ba portal.

Warning: Disturbing video

As stated, the young man was taken ill later during the night and had to be admitted to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with injuries.

The Interior Ministry (MUP) of the Herzegovina-Neretva District (HNZ) also reacted to this case of police violence.

"The Ministry of the Interior of the HNZ strongly condemns the brutal attack carried by police officers that took place on April 10 at 11:03 pm, for which there was no justification. This is a classic example of exceeding the police authority and code of conduct, for which we deeply apologize to the entire public, and especially to the young man who was the target of the action," the Ministry of the Interior stated.

They added that the two police officers were immediately removed from duty.

"An internal investigation has been launched during which all aspects of such behavior will be investigated, and it will be determined if the police officers are criminally responsible. Initial information about the event was forwarded to the HNZ Prosecutor's Office. Such behavior and such persons cannot and must not have a place among police officers," said a press release.
