Father Sava Janjic reacts to attack from Pristina: I reply to lies and insults with Lord's words
Sava Janjic, hegumen of the medieval Serbian Orthodox Monastery Visoki Decani in Kosovo and Metohija, spoke after he was accused by the Council for Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms from Pristina, which requested an investigation against him for alleged "war crimes." He wrote on Twitter that he can only respond to lies and insults with the words of the Lord.
"Blessed are you, when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven. (Mt 5: 11-12)," wrote the abbot of Visoki Decani.
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija has also responded to these accusations.
The Office of the Government of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija has rejected as unfounded the war crimes accusations against the abbot of the monastery Visoki Decani, Sava Janjic, saying it as an attempt by Kosovo Albanians to cover up the truth about the danger that this, one of the holiest Serbian shrines, is now under.
"The accusations that have been launched against the abbot of the monastery Visoki Decani, Father Sava Janjic, were carefully designed to mask the real truth about the threat to this holy place, which has been under armed protection by international forces for a full 20 years because of frequent attacks by extremists," said a statement from the Office, reports Tanjug.
It stressed that "such senseless accusation, not only have no basis in reality, but are also hypocritical attempts to create a fallacy and declare monks to be war criminals."
It is pointed out that from the moment the organization Europa Nostra included the monastery of Visoki Decani on the list of the seven most endangered sites in 2021, Pristina's attempts to relativize this factual and evidence-based state of affairs have not stopped.
"Neither has Visoki Decani shelled itself, nor has Father Hariton beheaded himself in 1999. That is why attempts to declare self-proclaimed Kosovo an oasis of multiculturalism and religious tolerance are absurd, since we have daily incidents on the ground that the European Union and all relevant international institutions in Kosovo and Metohija are being informed about," said the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
